Happy February! Is anyone else buried under a couple feet of snow like me? Massachusetts is no stranger to snow, but we are now hitting the top 10 highest snow accumulation of all time! And, it’s still coming down! I trekked out in the storm this morning and took this picture of my house:
It’s a little dark, cause it was snowing!
Okay.. down to business! I didn’t hit my goal for Suite101. By the end of January, I was hoping to have 5 articles up and $5 earnings. But, sometimes life just gets in the way.. and that is okay. That’s why this is my side project! See.. things happen to people with the best intentions. I’ll just continue on my plan to get 5 articles up a month.
I did get a third article posted onto Suite101 Fashion Design Colleges in Boston Massachusetts. This article was actually rejected by Demand Studios because I had too many opinions stated, like “great school”. So, instead of having my time wasted, I posted the article at Suite101. I love having the ability to do that so rejected articles that are still quality work will still earn me money! I have also done this with Yahoo! Contributor Network/Associated Content. So, if you spend time on an article and you know it’s good but it was rejected, go ahead and post it somewhere else.
As of 01/31/2011 my total income on Stuite101 is $2.88.
I also got a surprise payment today!! I have 27 articles posted on Firehow.com. The earnings there have been quite slow and I just sort of forgot about it! Well, I finally reached payout after about 10 months. I earned $10.67! These are all how-to articles. I’m trying to decide if I should put more out there, or solely focus on Suite101.
How are you all doing after the first month of the new year? Did you reach your goals? Are you changing your goals, your schedule, or your plans?

Hi. I just started following your blog and I love it. Congrats on your Suite101 earnings. That’s pretty good for just a few articles.
Since you’ve gotten paid by firehow.com I have a question…I have a few articles up on firehow but for the past few weeks everytime I try to go to the site it won’t load for me at all. I keep getting all kinds of weird error messages. I was wondering if you ever have that problem or if it’s just me? I have been thinking that something was wrong with their site, but maybe it’s just my computer?

Congrats on the FireHow payment. I have over 20 articles there too and am only at $8.08 as of yesterday. Like you, I forget about it for months and then go check to see if I’m anywhere near payout. I honestly believe your time would be better used adding articles to Suite101 instead of FireHow. Your earnings at Suite101 will grow faster each month.
Good luck.

Thanks Kristy! I do have that same problem. It has something to do with the cookies. What I do to get around it is to use IE to log into Firehow, when I usually use Firefox. Also, if you do NOT select “remember me” when you log into firehow, and each time you log in you enter your username and password, that should fix it. You’ll have to clear your firehow cookie out first.

Well, it is now February in 2012, and things changed dramatically after Google Panda. I can say I no longer write for Yahoo Contributor Network. They reject articles for ridiculous reasons, so that is a waste of time.
I have written for big upfront payments with Demand Studios, but Google Panda has also forced them to stop adding new articles in the system for the most part. That leaves Constant Content if you are a really good writer, but your articles may or may not sell there.
I recommend doing what you do. Just start your own blog and make that the main focus. If you can find upfront payments with any other site, then that is fine, too. But writing for revenue sharing only for another site is just not recommended unless you are planning on writing only a few articles. If you plan on writing thousands of articles, then start your own blog.
