Suite101 Warning – Bright Hub Upset

Tornado warning

Image via Wikipedia

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I heard through the grapevine that Suite101 took a hard hit with Google’s Panda update and that they may be closing shop.

Now, I’m not sure of the validity of this rumor yet, but just wanted to put the bug in your ear in case you have articles there. You may want to start thinking about what you will do with those articles. Once they are removed from Suite101, you could put them on Yahoo! Contributor Network (formerly Associated Content), sell them on Constant Content, or put them on your own personal site. If you have a bunch in the same topic, you could bundle them together and sell them as PR articles. Have you heard anything about this? Please comment below and share what you’ve heard.

While we are on this topic, it’s a good idea to have a plan for any of these types of sites that you have articles at. You never know when something will happen and a company will be shaken up and articles taken down. Just take a look at Bright Hub. There is a big upset going on at Bright Hub. Many people are having their articles removed, or asked to revise them. (I have had all 4 of my articles here taken down.) Yes, BH raised the rates from $10 to $15, but they also raised the word count from 450 to 750. If you look at the price per word, you are actually taking a PRICE CUT. They keep pushing that the pay is increased, but in my eyes, it’s not. And, you are doing almost double the work, but only getting a fractional rate increase. Now if they increased the rate to $25, I’d be much more impressed.

I’m trying to decide if I should stay at Bright Hub. A lot of people I know are not. I only have 4 articles there, so it will be easy for me to take those articles elsewhere. Do you have articles at Bright Hub? What do you think of all these changes? Are you staying or going?

Yesterday I posted about how I feel that my freelance writing career is changing a bit, and maybe another part of that is because of all these content company changes. As freelance writers, we must learn to go with the flow, roll with the changes, and evolve how we do business to continue to be successful freelance writers.

I’m leaving Bright Hub. I’m letting my current articles stay put. I think I have two up there. I’m just not going to add more content. I’m looking elsewhere.

I feel the same way, DeAnna .. I had three articles up, they took them all down, but one has been put back up. I think I’ll leave what’s there, there and collect my 25 cents a month. But I probably won’t write there anymore.

And, Suite101 may not be closing, but they are doing a major overhaul and I’ve heard they are going to a new domain.. so I’ll be be interested to see where that goes. I only have 6 articles up there, so it’s not a big deal for me either but I know of people that have hundreds of articles at Suite101.

I’ve not done anything with Bright Hub or Suite 101 (though I did consider signing up with Suite 101 for the longest time). But I do write for Demand Studios and Examiner.com and wrote for eHow before DS took over. That’s the sad part about content mill sites like this… you never know how long they’re going to last. Thanks for the head-up!
