How To Upload Pictures To Populis Create

Like Demand Studios and many other writing sites since Google’s Panda update, Populis Create requires writers to insert a picture and add tags to every article. The pictures can only come from Flicker and YouTube, and have a size limitation of 355 x 120 and 8kb. I had a hard time getting my first picture to load. Finally, the trick was:

Choose A Picture From Flicker

  1. At the Flickr homepage, click on “Explore” at the top.
  2. On the next screen, click on the down arrow next to “Explore” and choose “Creative Commons.”
  3. You want to use pictures from the first group “Attribution License.” Under the row of sample pictures, click on “see more.”
  4. Go to the search box at the top of the screen and enter in keywords for the type of picture you are looking for. Then click on the “search” button.
  5. Click on the picture you want to use. Keep this screen open as you will need the URL and the photographer’s name.
  6. Right click on the picture and choose medium.
  7. On the next screen, choose small.
  8. On this small picture, right click and save to your computer.

Re-Size The Picture On Picnik

  1. Go to picnik.com and click on the “Get Started Now” button in the middle of the page.
  2. On the next screen, click on “Upload A Photo” on the top left side of the page.
  3. A pop-up window will appear. Next to the file name field at the bottom, click on the down arrow and choose the picture you just saved from Flickr, which should be the first item. Then, click “open.
  4. Go back to picnic.com, to the Edit tab, and click on re-size.
  5. Uncheck the “keep proportions” box.
  6. Enter 355 x 120 in the dimensions boxes.
  7. Hit “okay.”
  8. Go to Save & Share tab and verify at the bottom that the size is 18KB or less. If it is, then move the slider to the left until it is 18K or less.
  9. Click on the “Save Photo” button. Keep the same name that is already appearing in the file name field. Click “Save.”
  10. A small window will pop-up asking you if you want to replace the original file with this new one. Yes, you do since this one has the right dimensions. Click “Yes.”

  3. In the “Text” field, enter in the photographer’s name from Flickr.
  4. In the “Url” field, go back to Flicker and copy the URL form the photograph page.
