About Me

Hello!  I’m Janis, nice to meet you.

I decided long ago that I would like to work from home. (Or win the lottery so I didn’t have to work at all!) After trying many different MLM companies and having quite a few business ideas that never paned out, I pretty much gave up.  Then, in 2009 I was laid off. With a newborn and a 9 year old, a mortgage, and all the other household bills that I was responsible for, I needed to find a way to earn income.

First, I took some of my severance money and paid for a medical transcription course with Career Step. I started hearing about how obtaining an MT work from home position can be difficult and when you do get a position the starting pay can be pretty low.  Since I have an obligation to help pay for household bills and I have a budget I have to meet, I decide to try freelance writing. Boy am I glad I did!

One of the things I’ve always loved doing was writing. About 10 years ago I purchased a few books on how to become a freelance writer and was very intimidated. I didn’t have the confidence to write quarry letters and send to publishers. I was discouraged that even if I did start writing for such publications, there are only so many magazines out there and it concerned me that I would not be able to make a great income with that alone. Fast forward to my current situation – being laid off with family household bills that need to be paid. My husband does work, but I was the main breadwinner in our family.

I started searching for freelance writing opportunities and that is when the wonderful world of website content writing opened up to me. I am going to share this world, or my view of it, with you. Come take a walk down Freelance Writer Road with me.
